With her permission, I am sharing the photo of this beautiful woman who had a cardiac arrest 6 months ago in conjunction with an acute MI, went into cardioenic shock and was kept alive with the help of a left ventricular assist device. She’s got a host of underlying chronic medical conditions that impact nearly every aspect of her life, but her sparkling smile always makes my day.

Although she’s got a massive wound on her calf currently being treated with Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT), she organized the Cereal and Suds Run which benefited the Ronald McDonald House of Galveston, delivering enough laundry soap to wash over 22,000 loads of laundry and enough cereal for over 18,000 servings.

The Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for the families of seriously ill children. This beautiful lady (who is wearing a KCI VAC in the photo), is herself seriously ill, but she’s making the most of life after death. She is my definition of an undaunted spirit. Thank you for inspiring me today.
