This event started as a project to help Physical Therapy students whose clinical rotations were cancelled but it has taken on a life of its own! I participated in the second one on diabetic foot ulcers. I can’t wait for this one because the keynote speaker is my friend Kevin Fontenot! I’ve blogged about Kevin here… and here… as well as here. We first met when he needed help with a pressure ulcer. He’s one of those patients who changes your life, and who you become proud to call a friend. He later took my son on his first dove hunt. Anyone in the field of wound management needs to hear what Kevin has to say about pressure management, pressure ulcers, and navigating the healthcare system.

Frank Aviles’ Virtual Wound Rounds program #3 (VWR #3) is scheduled for Friday May 1st from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm CST, focusing on Pressure Injuries. Time will be allotted for student interaction with presenters.  Students will also have a chance to win a prize at the end of the presentation.  There’s no cost for this event.

  • Dr. Jayesh Shah and Dr. Karen Albaugh will be present to answer chatbox questions.

Kennedy-Evans is a highly respected wound care clinician who discovered the Kennedy Terminal Ulcers while working in a 500 bed nursing home in the late 1970’s.  Todd Shaffett will be sharing wound care best practices, and Stacey Mullis will discuss important postural & seating considerations.

Students/clinicians will be assessing Kevin’s wound, as he shares how a traumatic accident changed his life. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear a patient’s perspective regarding his care.  Kevin continues to positively impact clinicians and patients despite his situation.

Kevin and his wife, Lisa, are the founders of Wheels on Water (WOW).  WOW is an organization offering free programs to help mobility-impaired outdoor enthusiasts enjoy outdoor activities.  You can read about Kevin’s story and this wonderful WOW organization in the posts above, as well as this article from the Houston Chronicle.
