You should read the entire LCD, because there is a lot to unpack. I will tackle various topics over the next several weeks, but here’s the list of covered and not-covered CTPs/skin subs for diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) and Venous Leg Ulcers (VLUs).

When will the changes take place?

What types of wounds does the policy cover?

  • Diabetic Foot Ulcers (DFUs) and Venous Leg Ulcers (VLUs)

What will happen about the use of CTPs/skin subs in other wound types?

  • For other wound types (e.g., pressure ulcers or other chronic ulcers or wounds, etc.), according to the LCD(s), the use of CTPs, “must meet the reasonable and necessary threshold for coverage and products must be used in accordance with their intended use as approved/regulated by the FDA.” It is up to the discretion of the MAC how these other wound types will be handled.
