Our “COVID-19 Diaries” guest blogger gave us her thoughts about HBOT for COVID-19 through the lens of a pulmonary/critical care physician.
HBOT may have promise in reducing the need for intubation and improving lung recovery. I have gotten a lot of comments and emails about this issue, and would like to point you to useful materials that have been put out by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS):
- Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society COVID-19 Information
- UHMS Position Statement: Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO2) for COVID-19 Patients
- Guidelines for infection control, patient treatment, and staff safety considerations related to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO2) in monoplace and multiplace hyperbaric chambers
- Case reports of HBOT for COVID-19

well documented article …I found the paper from Zhong Nanshan’s Wuhan experience particularly exciting & on point …good to see the Society engaged & this needs dissemination as many advantages to HBOT & it sure makes more sense than many other drugs …the world needs more HBOT units as well
