Hi Dr. Fife,
Thank you for your interesting and timely blog posts. My husband and I read the one about the Do-It-Yourself Hearing Test with interest. Unfortunately, our iPhones and AirPods are a little too old to use the Hearing Aid option. However, in case there are others in the same boat, I am providing some information about the National Hearing Test.
The goal of the National Hearing Test is to provide a simple, 10-minute test that can help people decide whether to seek a full-scale evaluation of their hearing. You can take the test using your telephone, or you can take it with a computer or mobile device with headphones ‐‐ and it’s free for members of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP). For non AARP members, each hearing test is $8.
I realize that this test may not be valid for ISSHL sufferers, but I still thought you might want to let people know that there are options other than using an iPhone as a method of screening for hearing loss.
