Here’s a young transplant patient with edema of her foot. We’ve talked about appropriate footwear but diabetic shoes are ugly . . .She asked me if she ought to be worried about the rash on her toes. She’s got petechiae which, of course, are caused when capillaries rupture and leak blood into the skin.  They were only present on her toes. I took off her flip flop and when I pressed on her very edematous foot, I could make even more of them appear. I’m sure someone can think of an acronym for flip flop induced foot petechiae…
