On Thursday, President Trump signed an executive order to equalize payment among sites of service. The order says that HHS should make sure Medicare pay and policies “encourage competition and a diversity of sites for patients to access care,” and directs CMS to look at “rewarding care through site neutrality.” (Of note, CMS had put forward a site-neutral policy that would cut pay for some hospital off-campus clinic visits, but a federal court struck down that policy.)
Here’s a link to the order and there’s a lot in it that will impact wound care services. I am still making my way through it. Note that the order directs CMS to “look at” this issue, it does not actually implement site neutrality:
Evidence has been accumulating for years that site neutrality is coming. I don’t think it is an issue of whether but when. This executive order might bring it a bit closer, but doesn’t implement it.
