Last week, the Senate passed a bill that expands Veteran’s Administration (VA) research into Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). The bill requires the VA to study and report on the effectiveness of HBOT in partnership with private organizations. Since oxygen is not made by a pharmaceutical company, it is likely that Congressional appropriation is the only way HBOT research will be funded. Unfortunately, we have an uphill battle because misuse and overuse of HBOT has negatively impacted attitudes about the treatment.
