Plastic surgeon and wound care practitioner Janet MacKenzie, MD has released a wound care guide for patients and families, “Wound Care at Home: A Guide for Families and Caregivers,” now available from Amazon. We take so much about the basics of wound care for granted such as how to clean a wound, how to apply a dressing, and what to do with soiled dressings! However, for patients, every aspect of caring for a wound is new and often frightening.
Even the most dedicated practitioner may fail to do a good job explaining the process of healing or the changes to expect in the appearance of a wound, much less the optimal diet or step by step instructions for changing a dressing. Dr. MacKenzie has put together a wonderful guide for patients and caregivers which provides the instructions and explanations we just don’t have time to provide, and which answers the questions that patients are often afraid to ask. This is a great resource for patients and wound care practitioners!
